As generals during the American Civil War, they would fight against one another, leading armies of thousands in fierce battles.

AUTHOR
A lifelong resident of South St. Louis, author NiNi Harris first explored the wooded bluffs of Jefferson Barracks while a child on family picnics. Along with hikes, sandwiches, and lemonade, those picnics always included a walk through the Powder Magazine Museum with its mannequins dressed in 19th-century uniforms. Those daylong adventures spurred a lifelong interest in the 120-year history of Jefferson Barracks as a US Army post. During her career, Harris has written 20 books exploring St. Louis’s extraordinary downtown, ethnic heritage, brick architecture, and landscape architecture. In this book she presents sights, sounds, conflicts, and romances from every chapter of the history of Jefferson Barracks.
